This coin is an eight reale which was found on the wrecks of the 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet, which were sunk by a hurricane July 31, 1715, on the east coast of Florida between Ft. Pierce and Sebastian Inlet, an area now known as the "Treasure Coast". It was minted in Mexico City around 1714, and bears the shield of Phillip V on the obverse. with the oM mintmark and the J assayer's mark to the left. The Florenzada Cross unique to Mexico on the reverse. These coins have been washing up on the beach for 50 years. They were "discovered" by Kip Wagner in the early 1960's, and are among the most popular collectors Spanish Treasure coins out there. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
