This emerald is a natural crystal weighing 2.51 carats. It was recovered from the wreck of the Atocha which sank near Key West, Florida in 1622. The emerald came from the famed Muzo Mine in Colombia, long the supplier of the most wonderful emeralds in the world. This one is accompanied by the original tag which was assigned to it when recovered and the original certificate. It is a nice medium/dark green emerald, and could be made into a wonderful piece of Atocha jewelry. Emeralds from the Atocha are scarce and command a great premium.
