A great 14 kt. gold double dolphin is mounted on this Two Reale Grade Two treasure coin from the Atocha. Dolphins have long been one of the most popular bezels which we have ever done. This cob was minted at the Potosi Mint by assayer Quadra around 1616. Quadra was known for the quality of his minting, and his coins are in great demand. This one is mounted with the dolphins facing each other on the Crusader's Cross side of the coin. The shield and a portion of the crown of Phillip III of Spain are visible on the obverse, as is the assayer's mark. Two reales from the Atocha are very scarce. This could be one of the last. (I'm not kidding)
