This gold doubloon was minted at the Seville Mint by assayer V between 1613 and
1615. It features the S mintmark and V assayer's mark to the left of the shield
of Phillip III of Spain. There is a complete cross on the reverse with fleur d'
lis. Gold cobs of this type were found on the Atocha, but since the original certificate
has been lost, we can't say for sure if this one was an Atocha coin. If it were
it would sell for $15,000 or more, as there were only 110 gold coins found on the
Atocha. The coin is mounted in a heavy 14 kt. yellow gold hand made ring size 11 1/2, but can be sized up or down 2 sizes. Don't miss out on this handstruck doubloon. They are rare and getting
harder to find.
