This Atocha 8 reale grade one was minted at the Potosi Mint between 1600 and 1621. It bears the shield of Phillip III of Spain on the obverse, with the P mintmark to the left and the oVIII denomination to the right. A portion of the Phillipvs legend is visible at the rim. The reverse features a Crusader's Cross with lions and castles representing Leone and Catille, provinces in Spain. The coin is mounted in a heavy 14 kt. yellow gold hand made bezel. In the lower left it has a handmade gold castle. The bale at the toop has an approximately .08 carat emerald that has a rich dark green color. Grade one coins sell for $3000 and up at the museum in Key West, and that is without a bezel. This coin is accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity from the Atocha and is guaranteed to be genuine.
