This heavy (13.5 grams, slightly overweight)Atocha four reale grade one was minted at the Potosi Mint by the famed Atocha dyslexic assayer Juan de Tapia, the T assayer. Tapia made many errors and reversals in the minting of his coins, and they are very collectible. The obverse of this fine coin bears the shield and crown of Phillip III of Spain. The mintmark P and Assayer's Mark T are visible to the left of the shield. The reverse features the Crusader's Cross with reversed lions and castles, a common Tapia error. This coin was recovered as part of the 1994 division of Atocha coins, thus the 94A coin number. Grade One coins sell at the museum for $3000 and up. This coin is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and is guaranteed to be genuine. A great coin for any collection.
