This rare gold artifact is a very high karat gold reliquary. It has a Madonna and Child with a Radiant Sunburst, with all surrounded by an ornate floret trim. . There is a gold ribbon shaped suspender at the top to be worn with a chain or a gold pin at the back so it can be worn as a brooch. There is also coral imbedded in the crevices of this wonderful piece. It is nearly two inches long and one-and-a-half inches wide, and weighs 18.2 grams. This is a magnificent piece. It has 3 certificates, two from Atocha/1715 Fleet/Margarita/1733 Fleet marine archaeologist James Sinclair, and one from Daniel Frank Sedwick. It was recovered from the Spanish Fleet which was sunk by a hurricane in 1733 in the Florida Keys, with the wreckage scattered between Big Pine Key and Key Largo. This is one of the more beautiful gold artifacts that we have yet seen from any shipwrecked Spanish Galleon. A Prize.
